Hepa Merz is a hypoammonemic drug for the treatment of diseases of the liver and biliary tract.

Hepa-Merz is characterized by a detoxifying effect, reducing the increased concentration of ammonia in the body. In particular, this condition occurs with liver diseases. L-ornithine-L-aspartate is involved in the ornithine Krebs urea cycle (helps to activate the cycle, increasing the activity of liver cell enzymes – carbamoyl phosphate synthetase and ornithine-carbamoyl transferase).

Hepa-Merz improves the production of growth hormone and insulin, normalizes protein metabolism in diseases that require parenteral nutrition. The active component of Hepa-Merz reduces pain, dyspeptic and asthenic syndromes, and also provides a decrease in increased body weight (with steatohepatitis and steatosis).

L-ornithine-L-aspartate undergoes rapid dissociation into aspartate and ornithine. Hepa-Merz begins to act within 15-25 minutes after administration and has a short half-life. The active substance is excreted in the urine during the implementation of the urea cycle.

Indications for use: Chronic and acute liver diseases accompanied by hyperammonemia; Latent or severe hepatic encephalopathy. In addition, the use of the concentrate is indicated as part of complex therapy for severe hepatic encephalopathy in patients with precoma or coma, and as a corrective supplement to parenteral nutrition agents for protein deficiency.

Hepa-Merz Granules are taken orally, after eating, dissolving in a liquid – 1 sachet per 200 ml, 2-3 times a day.

Most commom side effects are: digestive system: in some cases – vomiting, nausea; Other: allergic reactions.

When taking Hepa-Merz in doses significantly higher than therapeutic, it is possible to increase the severity of side effects of the drug. In this case, the stomach is immediately washed, and activated charcoal and symptomatic therapy are prescribed.
